John Piper: God’s anti-gay tornado

tornado.jpgPatrol Magazine drew my attention to this post by Piper, in which he concludes that the tornado that damaged Minneapolis Convention Centre

The tornado in Minneapolis was a gentle but firm warning to the ELCA and all of us: Turn from the approval of sin. Turn from the promotion of behaviors that lead to destruction.

I wonder:

  • Has Piper noticed that Minneapolis is not far outside the commonly presumed boundaries of Tornado Alley, and Minnesota has a long history of tornados?
  • Why did God never send any extreme weather on a whole succession of Episcopal General Conventions? Is it that God thinks it’s okay for Episcopalians to be gay? Or does he not care what Episcopalians do because they’re all damned anyway?
  • Why does God hate the states of Texas, Oklahoma and Florida most? What have they done to deserve more killer tornados than any other state?

John Piper clearly brings out my inner Dawkins. I think this sort of stuff is more twisted than twister.

Oh, were we meant to be celebrating demythologisation today, because “modern man” couldn’t believe that God did things like directly control the weather?

You’ve done many reprehensible things but linking Bultmann and Piper together in one post is probably the worst. Repent.

I wasn’t going to repent, but just then a high wind started to blow, so I’ve got my sackcloth and ashes out. :-o

I knew there was a reason I never read Piper

It’s the cognitive dissonance he tries to maintain that’s making him crazy. So sad because I know lots of people who hang on his every word.

This comes out, when somebody does not rightly divide the word of truth (2 Tim. 2:15), as every christian is commanded by the Scriptures. As much as I respect my refomed co-christians, they should turn away from their unwillingness to see, that there are different dispoensations in the Holy Scriptures and that we are no longer live in the times of the Old Testament. The Cross of Jesus Christ changed everything and the new Testament makes it clear for everyone who has eyes to read: “Its the Grace of God that leads to repentance.”(Rom. 2:4), not tornados.
My heartfelt condolances to everybody who lost someone or something in this terrible desaster. I pray, that all of you could experience the help and love of God through the helping hands of other people in this situation.

Piper is a plonker. It’s that simple really. I’m not saying that I’m not a plonker: just that Piper’s a bigger one.

You’ll like the Piper caption competition at the end of my weekly round-up then!
